Moving Sound, Philips’ bold and expressive line of radios from the 1980s is making a comeback. In 2026, Philips will reintroduce these iconic speakers through a modern interpretation, paying tribute to an era defined by big hear, neon-coloured clothing, and boomboxes. Does that ring a bell?
To honour this moment, and to celebrate one of Philips’ most characterful product lines, I created the first livery in my “What If” series: What if Philips had entered the
golden era of DTM?
This livery is a tribute to bold expression. Vivid colours that flow across the car in confident, sculpted lines, carefully shaped to enhance its form. Subtle Easter eggs are woven into the design, rewarding closer inspection and reinforcing its playful charcter. The result feels authentic alongside the legendary racing liveries of its time; striking, playful, and pure, embracing its era.
The core challenge of this design lays in its composition. Many iterations were explored to find a truly unique design that not only emphasizes the car’s shape, but would stand its ground among the grid it might have raced on.My personal joy is that I managed to capture the fearless spirit of a decade that embraced joy, confidence, and creativity without compromise. A designers dream.
