INTERNSHIP AT LINSSEN YACHTS

Internship

For my internship, I had the privilege to work for Linssen Yachts, a market leading steel yacht manufacturer. In addition, I regularly visited KesselsGranger DesignWorks, a design-studio that collaborates amongst others with Linssen Yachts. This combination of both parties would allow me to experience the complete design process of a Linssen Yacht.

My internship consisted of multiple exercises that were discussed on forehand with all involved parties. The exercises were carefully formed so that I was involved in all disciplines within the design and manufacturing of a Linssen Yachts.  This internship was the most learningfull experience of my bachelor. It was a reality check of what design means in the real world, but not in a bad way. I learned that the feasibility of a product is by far the most important aspect of a product. I experienced that the approach to development differs at significantly between a University and an association. They have the same goal to innovate, but the university is thinking about the innovation of tomorrow while the company try to make the innovation of today profitable. An valuable business insight that I will take with me in my future career.

This internship functioned as a test to see if the yacht industry would actually fit me as an Industrial Designer. And it did, it confirmed and surpassed my expectations and I want to pursue a career in the yacht industry.
