World's fastest suitcase

2026

Japan's underground street racing is one of the most authentic spectacles in car culture, and one of the least legal. In Osaka, the Kanjo racers have spent decades outrunning the police on an elevated expressway loop. Their weapon of choice: a Honda Civic.

Light, reliable, affordable and small enough to thread through traffic at illegal speeds. But the real magic sat under the bonnet; The VTEC engine. Below the crossover, it is a polite and refined engine. Above it, it becomes a screaming lunatic. One engine, two personalities.A suitcase doesn’t stay pristine for long. It picks up scuffs, stickers, and dents. Each one being a fragment of somewhere it has been, telling the story of its owner.

Kanjo Racing livery

That transformation is what this livery is about. I wanted to create something unique and striking, leaving the usual Japanese racing liveries behind. Therefore a purer, more cultural, and more artistic approach was chosen. It visualizes VTEC’s double personality through an ancient legend: 鯉魚躍龍門 (the carp that leaps the Dragon Gate). The story tells of a carp is swimming relentlessly against the current. It fights its way upstream, gathering strength until, with one final leap, it clears the Dragon Gate and transforms into a dragon.

Honda Civic livery

This livery is therefore a visual interpretation of the transformation itself: restraint becoming aggression, simplicity becoming complexity, the swimming carp becoming the dominant and ferocious dragon.
