DESIGNING SCALABLE PRODUCT FAMILIES

Designing within a mature and highly saturated product category sometimes requires a different approach to innovation. With a portfolio of over 900 references, with some being on the market for more than 30 years, it demands structure and long-term clarity. Focusing on maintaining consistency and relevance in order to grow in a meaningful way.

By analyzing the product catalogue next to brand and marketing strategy, I defined the values that unify the portfolio, as well as the unique values that differentiate each product line. This resulted in a clear overview identifying design opportunities across the ecosystem.

But in order to expand these product lines successfully, I work closely with category management and leverage market insights from the sales team. This does not only reveal new opportunities, but also provides context behind past design decisions. Which is critical when products are reintroduced or expanded upon in today’s market.

By structuring our vast amount of references as a coherent system rather than a collection of individual products,  design becomes a tool that drives scalability, clarity, and long-term relevance. Essential, for an evolving market.
